I found a pattern!

I found this great pattern on my own site LOL by Melissa and Company for a Star Guy. It comes with a muslin face pattern or you can make your own clay face or she sells the ones she makes. I think I have one of her faces laying around and I think I am going to attempt to make this guy and if I do I will post the picture. He looks like he would be alot of fun to make! I might try him with velvet material altho for me velvet is very hard to work with. So only time will tell.
Today I am off to the Folsom Peddlers Faire...it's usually loaded with antiques (like me) but hopefully I can find a craft or piece of art stuck in here and there.

Peafowl Fraktur Book Mark and what is a Fraktur?

I being the Grandmother of 4 of them ( you can see the male all the way to the bottom of the page) loved this bookmark.
But what is a Fraktur you ask?
I asked Leann of The Lion and Lamb Studio and she told me this.
"In the 1600's and 1700's wealthy citizens of Germany and the Low countries would celebrate the birth and baptism of their children by having elaborate certificates drawn up by a scholar learned in the art of FRAKTUR writing. Fraktur is taken from the same root word as our word for fracture; each letter is made up of several, or "broken" strokes of the pen, unlike the flowing script we teach our children today, where you don't life the writing instrument until you reach the end of the word.

Poor folks couldn't indulge their children this way---it was expensive. But when the Moravians, Mennonites, and other Annabaptist groups came to America, they worked hard at their land holdings and businesses---and discovered that life was a bit more prosperous in this New World. The idea of equality took firm root. One of the ways that they showed themselves and others that they were just as fine as the noble class in Europe was by commissioning a birth and/or baptism certificate for the new babies being born free Americans. The schoolmasters (never overly well paid) gladly accepted the bit of extra pocket money and crafted these FRAKTURS, using their best fraktur German calligraphy, and decorating the edges with the designs they remembered from the Old Country, and from the flowers and birds they saw around them (or, in some cases, a pretty piece of Calico fabric, fresh off the boat from India...!).

Today, the term fraktur art applies to both the writing and the stylized artwork decorating the certificates, little student awards, and painstaking valentines, book nameplates, etc. It was very popular on furniture too (check out the Pennsylvania Blanket Chests and Kaas' in museums, books, and websites!), and stylistically you can see the connection with alot of tole art in Sweeden and other parts of Northern Europe."
I feel to be able to draw like this is to be really talented in your art.

Mouse Family Pineapple Luau

The whole Mouse Family at the Motherlode Toad Factory is getting ready for their annual family get together. This year they have decided to have a luau party down by the creek. The little mice have been put in charge of the fruit salad. Mel, Maynard, Max, Marigold and all their friends absolutely love pineapple. They decided to start their fruit salad with a great big, juicy, sweet pineapple. They have been munching their way in and all around the pineapple for the last hour. They have not only all become full but also stuck. They are covered inside and out with pineapple juice. They have been hollering for someone to come and get them out. It may take a while because everyone else is so busy getting the luau set up and the limbo dance started. Maybe it’s just time for a nice long but sticky afternoon nap! If this isn't the cutest thing I have ever seen...you can purchase this on my Wymzee Art Site. Just click on the picture and go there. Just $75.00 sent to you.

Hand Woven Utensil Basket

I found this great utensil basket. It's perfect for on the kitchen counter to hold wooden spoons and other utensils. These baskets are also great as a vase if you place a quart Mason jar inside. They make the perfect holder for sunflowers or zinnias for fall and she can do a custom trim color for you.

Happy Fourth of July guess what

Woke up this morning to our magazine A Time for Primitives having been updated by the server. In the process they rolled it back to last months issue and none of this month is there. Oh Joy if they didn't take a current copy of it and save it then we get to totally rebuild it again for the month of July. So if anyone visits and it looks like the same old stuff that is why.

Let's make Rose Water

Soon it will be that time of the year again when the Roses are in bloom so here is a great way to make some Rose Water. We aren't going to drink it tho... we are going to wear it.

1 cup of distilled water 2 1/2 Tablespoons Vodka 1/2 cup of Fresh Rose Petals
10 Drops of Rose Fragrance Oil

Fill a sterilized glass jar with rose petals then pour the water and vodka over the petals and stir gently with a glass rod or stainless steel spoon. Add the rose fragrance oil and seal with an airtight lid. Store in a cool place for one week and stir every couple of days. Strain the liquid through a cheese cloth or paper coffee filter and discard the petals. Rose water should be bottled immediately in an airtight bottle.
Did you know that approximately 75 percent of all perfumes today list rose oil as one of the main ingredients? What does the vodka do in the rose oil? It is a preservative and prolongs the shelf life up to 6 months. If you make this without the use of the vodka use it within 1 month.
Roses have been around for a very long time wreaths made of Roses have been found in Egyptian Tombs. Even the Romans used to fill their pillows with the petals and the Greeks used to call Roses the "Queen of Flowers".

The worst recipe ever

Well I hope this qualifies for what Sandra has put me up to this time LOL...
Now she wants the worst recipe you ever had ...
This one hits home...My Husband is not much of a cook...I bet some of you can relate. Right?
So one night while I was still working I came home to a wonderful smelling stir fry...well the veggies were good it was what he put them on that just about killed me. Spanish Rice a Roni...and the two together do not mix! I have never been able to look a box of that in the face again. His excuse? We ran out of rice. Now what kind of excuse was that?

I'm trying to win a carved bird

I'm out trying to tell everyone I know about a carved bird on Helena C. Studio's blog. I want that birdy. She does the neatest carvings...So if I tell you and you run over there and post then I get two chances to win and if another one posts on there then I get three chances. You have to mention I told you to tho.

Check out my new bunny! He's just 6 inches tall and looks like he's strolling into town huh? I painted that wall 32 years ago. Can you believe it? I said if I ever move I'm taking the wall with me. Its a complete western town backed by pine trees if you could see all of it. Took me a year to do it but it was fun. Had a little help from a friend and my sister. Lots of memories in that wall.

Scented Stain for Tags and Material

Is anyone tired of the coffee smell you get when staining your tags or material? This is a great way to change that. Walnut Crystals! You only need a glass jar with a screw top lid and you can keep this for a very long time. Add about 1/2 tsp of walnut crystals to warm water and stir them until they are totally dissolved. If you want a darker stain use more crystals and if you want it lighter use more water. Then add your favorite fragrance oil until you have the degree of scent that you like. A nice outdoorsy scent or peppermint or cinnamon is great. I have found it also doesn't stain your hands as much. When using them on tags I like to apply it with a sponge brush. Make sure to get all the excess out of the brush first and then apply to your paper. With material I do the same thing. It's a great way to stain your muslin before you lay your pattern on and draw around it. That way you can get it as dark as you want. Staining with walnut crystals works especially good if you are going to paint your item and then sand it down. I think if you aren't going to paint your doll you should just use a coffee stain for that really primitive look. Hope some of you try this great recipe for Scented Fabric and Tag Stain.
